Chief Engineer

Qualification:
- At least 3 years experience as Chief Engineer on international trade.
Job Description:
Main Duties
- Treat safety and environmental compliance as a top priority.
- Overall responsible for the operation and maintenance of all existing machinery onboard.
- Work in cooperation with the Chief Mate on matters involving the Deck Department, to promote and ensure safety, security, environmental protection and maintenance.
- Ensure appropriate measures are being taken to prevent pollution of the environment.
- Responsible for the administration of the Engine Department, for the condition of the machinery, and to ensure safety, security and environmental protection.
- Responsible for the follow-up of the Class condition, continuous machinery or PMS survey arrangements.
- Responsible for running the engines at optimal efficiency and economy, or as required by the Manager or Charterer.
- Responsible for carrying out Planned Maintenance activities and maintenance that will lead to improved results.
- Responsible for ensuring no overdue jobs in AMOS, especially concerning Class or Critical Items.
- Responsible for the upkeep of the Engine logbook, Oil Record Book, F.O. Change-Over Log and other Engine Room files in accordance with the QMS filing system.
Rules and Regulations
- Ensure compliance with national and international rules and regulations, especially for all matters concerning safety and protection of the environment, as defined in the Company Safety, Security and Quality Management System to provide a safe working environment and minimize the potential for pollution.
Safety and Security
- Responsible to participate in, implementing and follow-up the Safety, Security and Quality Management System.
- The safety and health of the crew of the department.
- Overall responsible for fire prevention and firefighting contingency in the Engine Room and adjacent machinery spaces.
- Technically responsible and in charge of the CO2 plant.
- Responsible for the release of the main fire extinguishing system and activation of the warning alarm for the system covering the engine room and/or machinery spaces.
Maintenance and Repair
- Adhere to the Owner’s maintenance strategy and standards.
- PMS Planned Maintenance System – AMOS.
- Responsible for preparation and approval of requisitions for spare parts, stores and services for all machinery and technical installations.
- Responsible for the routine inspection of Cranes before and during cargo operation.
- Closely work with the Engineers and the Electro Technician regarding day-to-day maintenance activities of the machinery and the electrical plant.
- Responsible for the upkeep of the vessel’s technical files and record of engine parameters.
